THE COMM PROJECTS

It worked during the high school years, why not now? Actually, for most of these projects, the point was to create a movie. They were assigned and produced for COMM382 and 486 - telemedia courses at OSU. All of these are the school projects that were created and presented on Delusions of Grandeur. Maybe someday we'll expand the section to include all class projects, but here are the ones that have actually been shown to people:

  Fuel My Fire

1999
Drama/Music Video

The final assignment for COMM 486, the assignment was to basically create a music video. Alan's group chose the Prodigy song of the same name. This movie is discussed elsewhere on the site, so check it out for more.

  A Sunny Day

1999
Drama

Intended to be a video that showcased intesification through editing, this one is probably the worst of the COMM projects. A rather silly concept, a guy sees a sunny day on TV, then goes outside. Unfortunately, in reality, it's raining outside. He goes back in, and enjoys the sun on TV once more.

  Throw This Away

1998
Experimental

This assignment was intended to teach editing in accordance with a piece of music. Alan's group members were given the task of shooting this one, so they got drunk, smashed some bottles with a brick, and videotaped it. Having heard the instructor's 'less is more' mantra the entire term, the group decided to take it to a new level. Alan took the repetitive smashing sound from the Nine Inch Nails song of the same name, and edited one shot of a bottle smashing over and over. About fifteen times in a row. The teacher was mildly amused.

  Opportunities '98

1998
Drama / Music Video

This project was meant to be the visual expression of a feeling. Alan's group were assigned 'greed'. Missing the point somewhat, they produced a narrative about a guy running from a human embodiment of the emotion. Rather embarrassing over the top stuff.

We are Such Stuff as Dreams are Made Of

1998
Drama

The final assignment for COMM382, this is probably the best of all of the COMM projects. An interpretation of the Shakespeare quote, it's a narrative, this time about an egotistical TV show host who gets hit by a truck and awakens in a dream world. Once again, there's another page for this one elsewhere on the site.

  The Race

1998
Comedy

An assignment that required dealing with a mode of transportation, Alan picked a typical vehicle: Darth Vader's TIE fighter. It was a chroma-key extravaganza, featuring Vader street racing with a guy in a white Ford Bronco. Filled with humorously bad acting, this one's still kind of funny.
